Norwegian-international mentorprogram in classical music

Norwegian international mentor program for young talents in classical music. Joint venture between the Bergen International Festival (BiF), the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (OP) and the Barratt Due Institute of Music (BD). Crescendo is supported by Mrs Bettina Ford Jebsen, Mr Hans Peter Jebsen and Mr Trond Mohn, the DNB Savings Bank Foundation and Talent Norway AS. Project preparations were coordinated by the Bergen Research Foundation.

Two main platforms:the Bergen International Festival in the spring and Oslo Concert Hall with the Oslo Philharmonic in the fall.

Timing in 2017:
Bergen International Festival: May 24th to June 2nd (Crescendos mentorprogram for young soloists and chamber groups)
Oslo: June 18th – 23rd and October 1st- 6th (Young Philharmonic)

Goal:create opportunities for talented classical musicians of the next generation to experience excellence through meetings with their mentors.

Crescendo is divided into the following three integrated programs:

Mentorprogram for young soloists
Mentorship program for Young musicians with extraordinary soloist potential. Outstanding musicians on the verge of an international career meet top international musicians through coaching, performance and personal contact. Highly professional concert projects provide unique preparation and training grounds for a professional career. The program will include musical activities with mentors and other talents, coaching with mentors, and concerts, chamber music and soloist performances.

Mentors confirmed for 2017 are Alisa Weilerstein and Jonathan Biss.
Participants confirmed for 2017 are Guro Kleven Hagen (violin), Eivind Holtsmark Ringstad (viola), Sonoko Miriam Welde (violin) and Kian Soltani (cello).

Selection criteria:
a) participants up to 28 years in the applying year can apply
b) The Application process is open to candidates within the following instrumentgroups: string / winds / percussion / piano
c) The Application process is open to candidates with Norwegian background and/or Norwegian citizenship

Mentorprogram for young chamber groups
Chamber music program involving Young Chamber Music ensembles, executed side by side with the mentorprogram for young soloists at the Bergen International Festival.

Selection criteria:
a) participants up to 28 years in the applying year can apply
b) The Application process is open to all types of classical chamber Groups
c) The Application process is open to candidates with Norwegian background and/or Norwegian citizenship

Young Philharmonic Orchestra
Symphony orchestra developed and executed in close collaboration with the Oslo Philharmonic, coupling each of the 80-100 professionals with a young musician of tomorrow, up to 20 years of age. In addition, members of the Oslo Philharmonic will instruct group rehearsals and each professional member of the orchestra will act as mentor for a young talent.
